Prices of Flights are Killing Me.
I am not sure how everyone else is holding up, but I get that travelling last minute to Colombia will always been costlier than say Fort Lauderdale to Detroit. On my last trip I got stuck in traffic and had to purchase a new flight. Bogota to Miami was not bad, but trying to get a Sunday flight out of Miami was pulling teeth. Even a flight to Orlando was 150! Thankfully I was able to fly from Fort Meyers to Denver for 195. But to get back home was 150! Usually it is 75 or so to go home. It seems even weekend flights (say to Las Vegas or Denver) have gone up. Also it seems like more airlines are shifting to Las Vegas instead of Denver. To make matters worse even red eye flights are packed at Denver. It is mind blowing to me how the quality has gone down in the past year. Even in December it was not this bad. I remember when I could fly out of Detroit to Bogota for 350 and sometimes less. Even Denver I could fly to Bogota for 250 in January or February. Now it is 300 some minimum. Anyone else noticing this? Also the quality is going down.

Yeah I don’t know what is going on with the price of flights but it is getting bad. Often the flight price is the biggest expense of taking a trip anywhere. When I went to Hungary the hotel actually didn’t cost me as much as the flight did.

Re: Prices of Flights are Killing Me.
I hear you. For a hotel I could probably get by on 14 a night if I wanted to or 21 for a nice apartment room in Chapinero. I get flights cost but I think the pent up demand is getting to the market and normies are back to travelling. But that still does not explain the difference two months can make. I get that booking at the last minute is dumb .
Also I used to us Google and Skyscanner but they don't seem much better than Expedia and co. Anyone find a new site?

It really depends. Sometimes you can get a better deal going directly through the airline themselves. Also you have to keep checking because prices can drop then go back up again.
They have x number of seats at this tier, and y number of seats at a higher tier and so on. The x and y seats are no different and the level of service is the same but the airlines have devised this pricing strategy to maximize their profits.

I think they use Internet analytics to optimize profit. I think they charge more if you buy a ticket on the weekend or on certain days of the week. I think searching for a flight from different vendors makes the price go up. It might make sense to search for the flight on the same day of the week during a different week from different vendors, then come back and purchase the day you want.Voyager1 wrote: ↑March 8th, 2023, 9:37 amIt really depends. Beware of the budget airlines like Spirit Air, where you see cheap flights advertised, but the price can be so high after you pay for carry-ons and other bags that you spend more than if you'd gotten a ticket from a decent airline.
Having flown back and forth to Asia, those prices don't sound so high.
Re: Prices of Flights are Killing Me.
These days renting a car in the US is even more expensive than the flight. As for Spirit, I'm done with their 5 AM or 6 AM cheap flights. It's just not worth it to me

But that is the screwed up part. I asked if they had a flight back from Bogota and said the next flight was Monday. Even once I got to Fort Lauderdale stuff was limited. Frontier seems like the new Spirit. At least they have the go wild pass and prices have not gone up astronomically. The regional flights are what killed me. It as cheaper to fly from Fort Meyers to Denver than Denver to Las Vegas. Got figure on that one.

Re: Prices of Flights are Killing Me.
hello here I want tell about some of the precautions which are necessary during travelling
Crime
Petty crime, such as pickpocketing and purse snatching, occurs, particularly in the following locations:
airports
hotels
public transportation facilities
areas frequented by tourists
Ensure that your belongings, including passport and other travel documents, are secure at all times.
Fraud
Credit card and ATM fraud occur. When you are using debit or credit cards:
pay careful attention when other people are handling your cards
use ATMs located in well-lit public areas or inside a bank or business
avoid using card readers with an irregular or unusual feature
cover the keypad with one hand when entering your PIN
check for any unauthorized transactions on your account statements
shop only at reputable establishments where prices are listed
check prices before buying goods because some retailers charge foreigners exorbitant prices

Re: Prices of Flights are Killing Me.
I think they have a fee for carry-ones, along with Frontier. You can end up spending more after they nickel and dime you for everything.
I've also clicked on a price on a third-party site, like skyscanner, for one of those airlines and the ticket wasn't the price advertised there.
Since you spend soooo much time getting the flight straightened out, and it's more than the other carriers, I just generally avoid those two airlines unless I cannot help it.

I think I am kinda burnt out on Skyscanner and Spirit. I don't take a lot of bags but blue balling on prices and such kinda piss me off and then prices keep going up dos not help.MrMan wrote: ↑March 9th, 2023, 10:23 pmI think they have a fee for carry-ones, along with Frontier.
