I’d still choose South Korea over North Korea any day. You can be tortured and executed over very petty things in North Korea. As a Christian I would not be allowed to be open about my religion. I would be executed horrifically if I lived in North Korea. It is easily the most brutal regime in the world.
I understand your motivation. But South Korea is clearly a perverted and horrible place, as that Korean poster who always writes about Korean women being horrible will attest to. It seems ridiculously vapid, hence the many feminist bitches who refuse to have kids. Here read this piece about Korean feminists, the 4B movement. They are more radical than Western feminists because they decided to all take a vow of childlessness and become lesbians because their hatred for men is that intense:

https://www.thecut.com/2023/03/4b-movem ... korea.html

Compared to that, some fat dictator seems almost benign. I mean concentration camps are horrible but dying out is worse than living under bad conditions.
@MarcosZeitola

The article you posted the link (4B) is written in a fair way, it also mentions that Korean men are aggressive as well.
Around 2014 and 2015, a virulently misogynistic and anti-feminist community called “Ilbe” grew in size and prominence. In its interpretation, women were demanding additional rights and privileges when they already benefited from avoiding the country’s compulsory military service. To the Ilbe community, the entire female populace is gold-digging and shallow. Female Korean internet users responded by latching onto misogynistic strategies like trolling, mockery, and abusive language.
Also male Korean politicians are not known to be always feminist-friendly, openly speaking out that feminism is blowfish poison, and the present president Yoon got his votes from male young voters, as he promised to dissolve the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-63905490
As South Korea abolishes its gender ministry, women fight back
You have to understand Koreans to be aggressive fighters, men and women, it's in their nature, no need to take it seriously.
Compared to wild demonstrations in the past, life in South Korea is now rather peaceful.

Take it easy!

Yes, religion is out of question - no way! As a North Korean citizen as Christian or Buddhist, you will belong to the lowest 'hostile class' and therefore sent to farms, coal mines, factories forced to work - to own a Bible is already enough to be arrested (even if you are not a Christian believer).

The only exception I know is if you are a foreigner (diplomat, business related agency etc.) living in Pyongyang in the foreign community area, you can go to a church, temple and mosque.

For example, the Pyongyang Central Mosque - Masjid Ar-Rahman is located within the large Iran Embassy large compound.

Changchung Catholic Cathedral Pyongyang is not far away, no priest there, but it is open somehow for foreigners.

Russians also operate an Orthodox Church in Pyongyang...Jongbaek Russian Orthodox Monastery

About some Buddhist temples, they are not in the city center of Pyongyang and sometimes shown to foreign visitors, but some Asian visitors were complaining and said this is staged, a fake, and these Korean people praying there are not Buddhists, but actors.

North Korea is a pretty shitty place but unlike South Korea, at least the Kim Dynasty and its subjects aren't dying out anytime soon. Meanwhile South-Korea has a birth rate of 0.78 child per woman; the lowest in the entire world. A few more decades and the South will collapse, and the North takes over. They'll win the game simply by not dying out at this point.
South Korea, same as Japan, is clearly overpopulated, some reduction of the population is welcome by many citizens.

Who says, that North Korea is not dying out? Life expectancy in the North is by latest WHO data published in 2020 Male 69.3, female 75.7 and total life expectancy is 72.6.

Life expectancy at birth for men and women in South Korea is 80.6 and 86.6, then years longer than in the North.

In the North because of famine caused by flood and mismanagement and because of missing medical assistance, maybe one million people died, but nobody really knows how many - some say 500.000, other sources say 2 million. The North Korean media does not offer clear data.

Census data from the North cannot be trusted, the population might be now somehow between 24 and 26 million people.

South Korea, which land is 20 % smaller than those of North Korea population is 51.74 million people, is one of the most densely populated countries of the world.

I can assure you that population in Japan and South Korea will decline (but likely also in China and North Korea and Russia and Germany etc.etc.)
but citizens of those countries will not die out.

What about you? Nobody knows who you are, where you are living, and what you post here is often rather BS, contributing nothing to this forum.
Where are your pictures?

It's not that I am living in hiding in Japan, but if somebody I don't know contacts me, is approaching me and wants to know something about me, I think it is only polite to ask him in return that he should first of all introduce himself.

I said already that I am living in Japan since more than 40 years, now in Okayama prefecture and that I am a white man from Europe - this should be enough information about myself, I am with this forum since about 9 years.

I also said, 2 other members of this HA-Forum met me face to face, one in Tokyo, and the other one in Pattaya (my second home).

Good for you. That's great. All I said was it would be great to see some photos of Japan or to hear about life there from your perspective. Or do you already have writing on this forum about that?

@MarcosZeitola As @Yohan mentioned, this article provides the counterpoint of the conclusion you are drawing from it. I am aware of the fact that South Korea has a very radicalized fringe group of feminists. However, the group discussed in this article specifically is very small in number. It estimates them to be between 5,000 to 50,000 in size. If the United States had a similar population to South Korea, I'm sure you could find a similar number of self described neo-nazis. And by that I'm not just talking about people who are anti-semitic or a bit racist, but actual card carrying Nazis with swastika tattoos and everything.

It doesn't really matter how radicalized they are if they are that small in number. As Yohan mentioned, it seems that South Korean people are prone to extremism. I've seen protests where some South Korean men have called for all feminists to be killed. I even saw a K-pop star go on Twitter basically advocating that Black people be genocided. South Koreans seem like the opposite of the Japanese who really avoid extremism, South Koreans on the other hand, seem to embrace ideological extremism so naturally there are extremists on both sides.

As far as overall South Korean society goes, however, they definitely lean conservative. Much more so then anywhere in the US does. They actually have cities that are known as "conservative cities." Something which basically doesn't exist in the US. 90% of young, twenty something year old men in South Korea express some negative opinion of feminism. Among men aged 50 and up, over 60% of them are classified as "patriarchal" and 75% of them are conservative. Even among the women in South Korea, only 42% of young women in their 20s have feminist views. This is actually lower then the 50% of women in their 30s who have feminist views. This is mainly because South Korean men in their 20s are so universally hostile towards feminism that they've basically created a brutal cancel culture over there ostracizing any woman who is even suspected of being a feminist. Some politicians in South Korea say that feminism is worse then terrorism. And the two opposing political parties actually both claimed to be anti-feminist, although the more conservative party was more authentic in their argument for being anti-feminist. But the fact that the liberal party candidate also claimed to be against feminism speaks volumes about just how deeply unpopular feminism is in mainstream South Korean society.

Unlike Westerners, the men there are overwhelmingly, collectively opposed to it. Something I am very jealous of. One can point to the radicalized feminists in South Korea, but I think the reason why they are noteworthy is because of how fringe they subconsciously act and feel in comparison to mainstream South Korean society. There are plenty of American women who refuse to marry, have kids, or even date and have sex with guys. I knew a few back in high school who were basically politically motivated lesbians. The difference between the American girls who do it vs the South Korean girls who do it, however, is that the American girls don't give it a specific name, have to work nearly as hard to meet that objective, or are as vocal to the media about it. They just say things like "I'm not looking for a relationship," or "men are gross." Overall though, the result is exactly the same, both groups refuse to have anything to do with men. The South Korean feminists just seem a bit more hateful, probably because South Korean society hates them so much and unlike American men, the South Korean men are not backing down to the feminists.

The reason why South Korea's feminists are so radicalized is precisely because of how fringe they are. South Korean society has basically declared total war on feminism with an aggressiveness that makes Hungary look moderate by comparison. CEOs in South Korea have taken it upon themselves to simply fire their female employees, not because they did anything wrong but because their bosses literally believe they belong in the kitchen. Anyone who openly states they are a feminist gets fired from their job. Companies that accidentally promote feminist messages get boycotted, and female celebrities who identify as feminists get endlessly harassed on social media. Hungary's approach is more like "we want to convince women they don't want to be feminists, we want to show them that being traditional is positive for them too." South Korea's approach is more "get back in the kitchen you stupid bitches!".

Personally, I think both countries could learn something from one another. Hungary is just a little bit too soft and nice in their strategy towards feminism. Meanwhile, the South Korean approach is all aggression and no attempt made to convince women of the joys of motherhood and femininity. You need to make femininity desirable for women rather then just demanding it or you will create resentful women. The Hungarian approach is all honey and no vinegar, while the South Korean strategy is all vinegar and no honey. Overall, Hungary's strategy is definitely more effective because there is definitely a lot of genuine resentment from the South Korean women towards their men whereas in Hungary, I noticed that was pretty much absent from the women there. On the other hand though, Hungary is so close to the finish line but not quite there. And I do think that Hungary has pretty much exhausted every "rewarding" strategy you can possibly employ. At a certain point, being a bit more threatening is the only choice you have left.

The problem in South Korea though, which is not the case in Hungary, is that there is a huge gap between what the men there believe as opposed to what the women believe. The men are extremely anti-feminist but a lot of the women seem to have "suppressed feminist" views. Not many will openly describe themselves as a feminists, but clearly, a lot of them have sympathy for the feminist movement or else they would be eager to marry and have kids as the men there want them to. Hungarian men and women, on the other hand, are not that different from one another in opinions.

Overall though, no system on Earth would be worse for me then North Korea is because I’d get executed there. Kim isn’t just your standard fat dictator. It’s not the same as a country like Russia, Thailand, or even China, which are also authoritarian regimes. North Korea is a uniquely severe form of authoritarianism. One in which you can be executed or end up in a concentration camp for just about anything. One minor slip up and your life is done. North Korea is the one country on Earth that makes other terrible countries like Iceland or the Congo seem enviable by comparison.

I feel terrible for everybody living there.

No idea why Thailand or Iceland are such bad places, honestly.

I visit Thailand since more than 40 years, never a problem for foreigners.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Otherwise you are right of course.

While North Korea is not a chaos country - it is very good organized - it is not the best place to visit it for some foreigners however.

Surely North Korea is not a recommended destination for US-citizens, or religious bigots who want to distribute the Bible, and also not for Japanese citizens, stay away, better safe than sorry.

As a foreigner, for living safely in North Korea you need indeed some diplomatic protection, like work in an embassy, or foreign government related trade chamber, or an invitation from a North Korean government related organization.

You will live after arrival in Pyongyang among the elite class and not miss anything.

North Korea is getting more attention than it deserves. The reason North Korea became a F*cked up, Looney toons dictatorship is that
the U.S and it's western allies/vassal states have been sanctioning North Korea for more than twenty years.
Western sanctions enable the Kim family to reinforce their justification of why they should be in power, because of the evil West economically seizing them. The west is helping them in their isolation.

it's really unfortunate for the average North Korean people, I feel really sorry for them and I don't like the Kim family either.
It seems that the West is part of the problem instead of the solution.. More sanctions just means North Korea would do more crazier things and more illegal activities.
Your friendly Neighborhood Cynic!

I like Thailand a lot, I wasn’t saying it was terrible. I was merely pointing out that it is technically an autocracy. My point in mentioning it was to say that I do not immediately dismiss a country for being autocratic but that North Korea’s autocratic nature is uniquely extreme.

As far Iceland, I think it is a terrible country because it is extremely feminist. Literally ranked as the most feminist country in the world.

You see, Thailand might be a strange mixture of military government and monarchy, but it is functioning and there are millions of foreign tourists and the living standard for the ordinary locals is not that bad - infrastructure and safety and financial conditions are much better than in Philippines...

I think Thailand is the best place in that region.
Thailand has however a similar problem like Europe with impoverished illegal immigrants from Myanmar (military government), communist Laos, (rather an empty place) Cambodia (dictator) - Thailand's neighbors are not really good ones... Malaysia is better, but the border to Thailand is also unsafe because of Muslim activity etc.

Asia in general is not so stable, but still from all what I know, North Korea is the most difficult place to live, totally unpredictable what might happen to one of its citizens and even to foreign visitors next day.

About Iceland, there are only less than 400.000 people living there, and these Northern Germanic people from Scandinavia are not much into disputes.
Pro-feminist yes, but not hateful like in the States and they all have a nice living standard - only winter time is terrible, too cold...too dark...for sure not a place for me either.

I’m fine with a country that’s mildly authoritarian as long as liberalism and feminism is suppressed.

How hateful the Americans feminists are compared to the Iceland feminists doesn’t really change my opinion. Virtually every girl in Iceland is a feminist. I don’t really care if they are comparatively mild about it. I want a girl who isn’t a feminist at all. The taxation system in Iceland makes it virtually impossible for a girl to be a stay at home mom and even if the taxation system wasn’t like that, the concept is so alien to the women there that they’d treat me like a literal dinosaur.

I’ve also read articles showing that one night stand culture is absolutely massive in Iceland. It’s the most sexually permissive country in the world. In addition to that… 75% of women there think BDSM should be accepted by society.

In the US there is still a large group of men and women who are opposed to all that. In Iceland, conservatives basically don’t exist. I’m not surprised the feminists are not hateful, not much point in being hateful when the overwhelming consensus of society is on your side.
