I won't mention any names, but there are several self-admitted "teen lovers" (aka ephebophiles) in this forum, all of them USA citizens as far as i know. They will surely be interested in linked news report, regarding a 28yo ephebophile who will now rot for life in an Oklahoma prison on account of his attempts to get into the pants off a girl aged 15-17 at the time the nefarious deeds were perpetrated:

1. He was foolish to attempt that in the US
2. He didn't have noble intentions
3. He didn't use any Machiavellianism or psychological strategies to influence the girl into giving him complete loyalty

I get a conviction for grooming. Did he actually have sex with her? But either way.... life in prison... life? For a sexual crime? Isn't that reserved for murder in every state... I'm not sure whether it is an option for treason on the federal level.

He could have gotten enough years to fill up his life span, but where is the evidence that any of this is a 'life sentence' type crime in Oklahoma? It doesn't seem to fit the US criminal justice tradition or common law, so it seems odd.

I don't have a problem with a death sentence if it's a man with a boy, btw. But I just don't see how it fits our legal system.

The guy was having sex with this girl, outside of marriage. At least he wanted to marry her. He should have just talked to her and waiting until her 18th birthday instead of committing a crime if he really wanted to marry her.

It says he took her to Arkansas in order to get married. If this is true I don’t see how he committed any crime?

I read they accused him of having sex with her...I am guessing in Oklahoma since he was charged. Also with chuld pornography charges. I wonder if it was just her pictures. I don't do the naked pictures of my lady on the phone, computers or elsewhere--hackers and such...or kids going through stuff after our deaths. With illegal activity there is also the police.

In an ideal society a man would not take such pictures or even talk to such a young girl without first getting permission from her father and getting her hand in marriage, as he should. Creeping around without the intention of marriage and child-rearing makes him just another creep out to ruin yet another young female... If he's not going to marry her, he's just a degenerate as any other American male and undeserving of sympathy.

But the thing is you have men getting life for taking pictures of their 17yo girlfriends that they have been legally having sex with. All this crazy stuff does is effectively reserve the females for negros and degenerates.

Exactly. It's not uncommon for 16 or 17 years old girls to get married at that age, in some areas of rural US. It's all about the "how", rather than the "when". This man must have been behaving like a total creep, extorting pictures of his 15-yo "girlfriend" without her family knowing.

Not advocating ephebophile lust at all here. But it does look better when shrouded by a pretense of respectability and good intentions.

In the US, 18 is the age at which individuals are considered to be adults. In some states, if a 17-year-old has sex with a 17-year-old, it's against old laws they don't enforce. But if he's 18 or older, they can get them for child molestation, statutory rape, etc. He was 28, and the sex wasn't legal. A lot of states have fornication statues on the books that the states don't enforce. I'm not sure if judges struck down the laws.

I suspect 'life in prison' was bad journalism. My guess is that journalists aren't usually specialists in much other than journalism, which means they usually don't know that much about what they are reporting about.

I don't give a tinker's damn about society's viability other than to the extent a collapsing society might affect me personally in my last 38 or so years on this planet (planning to exit at age 100, mainly because round number, but also probable maximum lifespan). But i do care very much about staying out of legal trouble. Teens are jail bait.
