A New Chapter of Happier Abroad

Post by yick »

I lived and worked in Asia for the past 18 years and have been a really enjoyable and fulfilling 18 years and I was planning to see it out until I was 60 but that won't happen because of reasons stated in my other thread but this is what makes life exciting. You can't plan anything long term and new directions, opportunities and surprises await us.

So, I am off to South America, I am a Peruvian citizen so I can work and live in Peru which is what I will probably do but because Colombia is part of the same trading bloc as Peru is that I can look up opportunities in Colombia because Peruvians can go and live in Colombia easily, not quite 'freedom of movement' but it's really easy for me to do and get permanent residence of Colombia - I like Colombia a lot but I will make a great living and have a wonderful life in Lima.

So, the 'Happier Abroad' ride keeps going but this afternoon, I was walking in the park here in China and it is a beautiful day here and so peaceful and calm, I am going to miss this place but excited about what's coming next, the truth is I was never able to stay here forever but this push - sooner than I probably wanted to - was needed.

So we can stop hearing about how good Communist China is? What a wonderful place it is to live?

Cheers man. I love Colombia for relaxing and chilling. I just worry with Petro, the Wealth tax, and a few other things. Still might be a solid market to export to though, especially if you business is not domiciled there or subject to their whims. Also look into Paraguay as I think it is on Mercosaur. Also Chile and Uruguay seem like good mentions, but population collapse in Chile spooked me a bit. Regardless best of luck and sorry about this door closing.

I heard that Peru women aren't as friendly as Colombia or Brazil. Is that so? Even if that's so I'm sure you can always find some exceptions right Yick?

You're a Peruvian citizen because you were born in Peru - you're a Peruvian native. So you're not "off" to somewhere. You're going back home.

Then you try to bring in Columbia to make it more "abroad" but that is just a bordering country.

Nice try

Mine is the first scenario - I am British and there are nice places in the UK without the social problems of the other 75% of the shitehole and could I be happy there? Probably though the weather is a big thing but there are some nice places in the UK - now, Mombasa in Kenya has it all for me, beaches, sun, cost of living, nice weather, dateable women (for me, personally) they speak English etc and I would prefer to live there than a nice part of England but is Kenya better than England overall and I would say no but because Mombasa in Kenya ticks enough boxes for me I prefer it.
I guess you were talking hypothetically.
