Yes and no. It is a mixed situation. In the south of the country, I saw all these mulatto kids mingling with everyone else, working on their jobs with others and walking down the street with friends who were not black. The government also does not have a racial category for them- they are Ukrainians by law, nothing else. Now, how average people react to them is a toss up and totally unpredictable. I guess it depends on what city they are in, what area, etc. You can go into a hard working class area and have all kinds of problems, or you may not. I guess things are better in the parts of Ukraine that are ethnically diverse vs. the deep, hard country or smaller towns in the Rust Belt. The woman's kids are in Sumy- waaay out in the boondocks. Not a good place to be black. Same as it would be in a small town in Vermont, somewhere.
