Teen Gets Branded Felon for Life...

A 15-year-old from Syracuse, Anthony Stewart, was sentenced to 2 to 6 years in a juvenile detention facility by Judge William Walsh of Onandaga County for a robbery in which the teenager took a mere 7 cents.

Walsh said he issued the harsh sentence because Stewart declined to plead guilty, choosing to fight the charges. A jury found him guilty of first degree robbery.

The victim had identified Stewart and a friend as the perpetrators, Walsh said, "and yet you still denied it," the Post-Standard newspaper of Syracuse reported.

"Well, that cost you," Walsh added.

The other teenager, Skyler Ninham, 16, pleaded guilty in July and was sentenced to 1 to 4 years in prison.

Stewart and Ninham carried BB guns that looked like real pistols when they knocked a 73-year old man to the ground--Stewart punching him in the face--and took all the cash he had on him, prosecutors said. That amounted to 7 cents.

Stewart's lawyer, Laurin Haddad, had pleaded with Walsh to treat her client as a youthful offender, so that a felony conviction wouldn't remain on his permanent record.

"For 7 cents, now you're making someone a felon for the rest of his life," Haddad told the Post-Standard.

I agree with what this judge did myself. I think it is deplorable for a 15 year old to rob an elderly man like that. It is possible that he could have gotten longer.
Wielding the blade of evil's bane, he sealed the dark one away and gave the land light. This man, who traveled through time to save the land, was known as the Hero of Men. The man's tale was passed down through generations until it became legend...

Of course the judge did the right thing. The actual amount stolen is not the point -- this punk most deservedly warranted a felony conviction. The article headline made it seem like the crime was no big deal, which goes to show how deceitful and manipulative the news media are if one isn't vigilant enough.

One more thing: without having read the article, I already guessed right away that the race of the perpetrator was black or at least mestizo. Usually, when a news article reports a violent crime, there will be no photos or mention of the perpetrator's race (unless he's white) -- most likely because it would alert the general public that a disproportionate number of violent criminals are black males, and that maybe there is a real connection between violent crime and dark-skinned males after all. Now that's one conspiracy theory for you that makes sense.

I wanted to do some research and maybe publish a study confirming that the majority of criminals in my race are dark skin black males. That would get me probably killed or kicked out of my group yet i have believed so for a long time.
Anyway my grandfather when he was a alive was attacked by some animal really bad so i agree the punishment on that youth was worth it.

I'm sorry to hear that, Erik. The truth is, it seems that most criminals are in fact Black, no matter what their reason for committing the crime was. I could be wrong, but then again, most of the prison population in America is Black, and (correct me if I am wrong, but) only a minority of Blacks in prison now are there and they are not guilty.

This is how I classify the Blacks that are in prison:

A) Those in prison for violent crimes

B) Those in prison for non-violent crimes

C) Those in prison, even though 100% innocent

I am no master statistician, but I am willing to wager that oput of all of the Blacks that are in prison, most of them are in for violent crimes.
