Hello, I recently found this forum and there are some interesting perspectives. My travels include Europe, Asia and South America.
I retired from 25 years of the U.S. military and I plan to move to Southeast Asia. People tell me that Thailand and the Phillipines are good places to retire. My goal is to start a small business. If anyone has any suggestions, I would welcome any feedback.
Thanks, John.

W: It depends on what you like, mountains, beaches, quiet, busy, city, rural, bars, etc.worldambassador1234 wrote:Thank you for the guidance. If I move to the Philippines, which town or city does anyone suggest?
I'm pretty comfortable in retiring almost anywhere. It's time that I find some new friends and possibly companionship.

There are some ideas here:

Also, here is something someone posted on Couchsurfing's Philippines group:

"Hi teejoo,
I lived there for two years, so I might be able to give you some advice. Where you live really depends on where you want to live, and how you want to live. If you want to live by the beach, but want to be close to other ex-pats, I'd recommend Puerto Galera on the island of Mindoro. There's a big ex-pat community, it's near enough to Manila, but it's still a sleepy town in a lot of ways (depending on where you go of course!)
If you don't necessarily want to live by a bunch of ex-pats (probably recommended), I would try Cebu (city of, or island), Dumaguete (a city on Negros) or maybe even Tagbilaran on Bohol. Check out Puerto Princesa and Coron on Palawan as well. Baguio is also a really nice city, up in the Cordilleras, kind of a different Philippines experience since it's coldish and not near the beach...
So those are cities. If you really want to experience the Philippines and it's quiet solitude you want, I would suggest up in the Sagada area, or anywhere in the Cordilleras, down south on the island of Cebu, the island of Bohol, or the island of Siquior. Also check out the Romblon islands and Marinduque. Those are all going to be quiet, beautiful places where you can really get to know people and make a life without being "just another foreigner."
That said, in my opinion, avoid Subic, Boracay, anywhere near Olongapo or Angeles. Pampanga in general (sorry anyone from there!)
Hope that helps. My suggestion would be to research some places, then go for an extended visit, see which you like best, and then talk with some people in the area about houses for rent/to buy etc. You'll never go wanting for help and advice from Filipinos!"
